How to apply
The first step in applying to the Foundation is to determine whether the Foundation will be able to consider your request.
Please read the requirements for Eligibility to ensure that your organisation and your project are eligible to be considered for a grant from the Foundation.
You should refer to the Funding Principles and the Program Area of interest to you to ascertain whether your project meets the Foundation's guidelines.
Note: all grants are made subject to the Standard Grant Conditions
Please note that in order for an application to be considered, one signed original of the application including all required documentation, together with an email copy must be received by close of business at 5pm on the Closing Date.

All applicants are encouraged to submit their applications earlier rather than wait until the closing date.
Grants
Submitting an application
The Foundation carefully considers all eligible applications to determine whether a project fits its current program interests and funding principles.
If your grant application is for $50,000 or more, the primary contact for the project must speak to the relevant Program Manager at the Foundation prior to submitting the application.
Applicants should be aware that for the purposes of assessment their proposal may be sent to specialist consultants. This is done on a confidential basis.
In order for an application to be considered, one signed original of the application together with an email copy must be received by close of business at 5pm on the Closing Date.
Hard copies, including all required documentation may be sent by post, courier or hand-delivered. Applications sent by fax will not be accepted.

Additional information for Universities and Research Institutes
The Foundation will notify applicants by email within seven days of receipt of an application. The Foundation endeavours to inform all applicants of the outcome of their submission in writing, by post or email within three months of the closing date .
Unfortunately many more applications are received than can be supported. It is the policy of the Foundation not to provide reasons for the declination of applications.
Applicants are asked to apply using the application form which may be downloaded.
Grants
Travel and Conference Grants
Applicants must apply using the Travel and Conference application form.
Applications for travel or conference grants must be submitted by the organisation or institution, and in the case of universities, through the university research office. No direct applications by individuals can be considered.
Applications including all required documentation should be mailed, couriered, or hand-delivered to the Foundation's office by 5.00 pm on the closing date. An email copy is not required.
In some cases further information will be sought from applicants.
Please note that there are specific criteria for Universities and Research Institutes
Travel and conference grant applicants must provide written confirmation of cash financial support from their institution. Please note that any applications that do not have confirmed cash financial support from the applicant's institution will be ineligible for consideration by the Foundation.
Note: Travel grant applicants cannot request more than the cash financial contribution from the organisation.
It is expected that recipients of travel or conference grants will submit a brief report (approximately one page) either after the conference or upon their return to Australia, outlining the benefits of the travel or conference to the individual, to the employing institute and to the field of interest.
Note: The travel grant applicant's intended departure date must be after the date indicated with each of the closing dates.

Grants
Universities & Research
Please note that The Ian Potter Foundation
- Focuses on major new developments within a university or research institute
- Does not provide funding for projects or items of equipment that might be funded internally or by a Government agency such as the NH&MRC or the ARC
- Will not fund retrospectively.
All applications must be submitted by the Research or Grants Office.
- Direct applications by individuals will not be considered
- Applications should state why it is a priority for the institution as a whole.
- A university should rank all applications in priority, except travel grant requests, submitted in a particular funding round.
Research grant applications must be signed by the Head or Director of a Research Institute, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Research or equivalent office holder of a University, or the Chief Executive Officer or the equivalent of a teaching hospital.
Non-research grant applications must be signed by the Vice-Chancellor of the University, the Head or Director of the Research Institute, or the CEO or equivalent of the teaching Hospital.
